My daughter and I traveled from Ohio to California during the Covid holiday travel madness. We did two Catalina company tours - the zip line and the journey to the sky bus tour. Every employee of the company that we encountered throughout our day was lovely. The zip lines were terrifying and exhilarating, and our guides Thomas and Fernando were excellent. Our jeep tour was cancelled due to road closure, and we had the good fortune and fate of going on Cindy’s bus tour instead. She is an exceptional, genuine person, with a love of the island, and was so generous with her time and energy in sharing the Island’s beauty and history with us. if nothing else goes right in our travels this week, the day we spent on Catalina island will have made the whole trip worthwhile.

Bear our tour guide/driver was excellent. I had booked an e-bus but we got a Hummer Jeep. I have a bad back and even with bringing my own seat cushion, the Hummer seats and all of the jostling around on bumpy roads really hurt my back to the point of excruciating pain.

Great adventure. Thrilling, fun educational, scenic and very cold at the top. Bringing a sweatshirt is highly recommended. The guides/drivers are very experienced, knowledgeable, very capable of handling a large Hummer and extremely personable. Well worth the price. If you like adventurous tours, then this is a must. Don’t forget to generously tip your guide/driver.

I have a birthday weekend coming up and booked Journey to the Sky after seeing so many wonderful reviews. I booked in mid September and here it is, less than 24 hrs before our tour and they call to cancel my tour because they booked up and because I bought a “voucher” through TripAdvisor they cancelled my reservation!!!!! I am not a complainer, I generally go with the flow, as this is my first time being to Catalina I really wanted a land tour (I already have a boat tour) but they are ALL SOLD OUT!!!! I am beyond upset...do not book thru TripAdvisor!!!!!!

Unique ride on newish electric 20 passenger bus (although website reads that it would be in a 50s era bus) with a bit too much needless laughter from driver Freddie who although knew his material and was a friendly fellow could have rested his voice every once in a while and let us enjoy the scenery. If you get nervous on steep slopes and winding roads...stay in town!

We were well pleased with the Skyline Drive tour. The driver/tour guide gave a good account of the history and the plants and animals of the area. We saw buffaloes, a island fox, and a fawn.

I was there by myself (with about a dozen of others on the bus) on 9/2 (Labor Day, high temp 86F). D was our driver and guide. She was very professional and warm, knowledgeable of the history of the island, offered to take pictures for us, and taught us how to call the bison. The bus was air-conditioned (thank goodness!) and our tour lasted ~ 20 minutes longer than the said duration, because WE SPOTTED 3 BISON in 3 separate locations! The road was narrow, mostly smooth, and with many curves, but D maneuvered through all of the curves with much caution and expertise. Highly recommend the tour (especially on hot summer days) and D!

It can be fun just hanging out in Avalon, but this tour gives you the opportunity to see more of the island. Basically, the (electric) bus takes the winding road up to the airport, on the ridgeline of the island, and returns. The driver we had was pretty funny, and told a lot of interesting stories about the Wrigley family and the history of the island. (He did have some terrible puns, though.) It's a very pleasant two and a half hours or so.
